[Meet the Leadership Council] Megan Powers, Marketing & Membership Chair

Pavarotti or Placido?
Placido. Pavarotti was a star and had a gorgeous voice, but Domingo will always be the superior artist. He refuted the image of tenors as divas and is one of the hardest working singers in the business.
How did you get involved in EAL/LA?
A friend of mine from New York told me to sign up for the listserve when I moved to California. I needed a job stat and decided to attend a meeting in order to network. Instead I’ve made wonderful friends and have found a passionate arts community that welcomed me with open arms.
KCRW or KPCC?
KPCC. Their programming keeps me sane during a looong commute from Anaheim to Pasadena. I look forward to The Story at 8pm when I drive home after a EAL/LA function.
Why do you think EAL/LA is a good resource for young arts professionals?
There are so many creative and talented individuals that the network challenges you to become a more resourceful arts professional. I admire so many of my peers in EAL/LA; we are all working together to create a much needed a young professional network in LA. At the end of the day, no matter the job, the boss, we have each other challenging ourselves to become the next generation of leaders.
LACMA or MOCA?
MOCA. I can’t help myself. New York represent!
What is your favorite experience with EAL/LA so far?
I loved “Creative Conversations 2010″. The team coordinating the event proved outstanding, pulling together an interesting program that initiated a lot of dialogue in the arts community afterwards.
What are your goals as Marketing & Membership Chair for the next two years?
I will be the Membership Coordinator and I want to raise the overall profile of EAL/LA among the arts community in LA. I think word of mouth has solidified a respected reputation among young arts professionals, but it has not become the go to resource for young talent in LA. Through meetings, seminars, professional development, it is essential that we raise our own profile while starting to organize a membership program. Go team!!
Give us a link to an artwork that means a lot to you and tell us why?
I have Madame X by John Singer Sargent hanging by my desk. The portrait of this fearless woman reminds me to disregard the criticism of others and to forge my own path in life. I admire strong, independent women.
What is your involvement in the arts outside of EAL/LA?
I work as the Development Associate at the Los Angeles Children’s Chorus. I attend music performances throughout Orange County and Los Angeles and volunteer for my friends when they need help at an event or concert.
Love your goals and reference to the Sargent piece. It’s gorgeous and inspiring!
Hooray for raising our profile, so excited to see us grow from this pivotal point in EAL/LA history!
I’ve never seen/heard of that art piece. STUNNING WOMAN.
I’ve seen Madame X at the Met- fabulous!
