Venice Arts seeks a versatile, accomplished, and committed filmmaker, educator, and manager for its Art Mentoring Program. Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, this position’s roles include development of the film and animation programs (including comics), teaching, and program oversight in key areas. Candidates must be as passionate about youth education, as program development. Specific responsibilities include: Program Oversight and Development Curriculum development Recruit, train, supervise, and retain film, animation, and comics faculty. Oversee the quality of faculty syllabi and that in-class practices reflect Venice Arts’ teaching philosophies and curricular goals. Oversee the development of the Advanced Studies program including workshops, internships, externships, and related. Work with youth and oversee the development of film-based projects for the organization. Teach one filmmaking workshop each cycle.
The qualified candidate is an excellent arts education manager, experienced filmmaker, and educator; experienced teaching film to youth required, as is a background and interest in documentary film and community storytelling. Familiarity with participant produced media a plus. A high level of computer proficiency is required, including being expert with current innovations in film and digital arts software and film production techniques; expertise in new/multi–media content development and delivery preferred, as is familiarity with animation. Must be well-organized and detailed oriented, able to multi-task and manage multiple deadlines successfully. Must have prior experience with program development and supervising staff; experience with volunteer supervision a plus. Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills. An advanced degree is preferred, but not required.
