At Large Member Candidate Statements
Charles Jensen, Development & Communications Manager, Arts For LA
I’m interested in joining the Leadership Council so that I can import a greater understanding and awareness of the importance of advocacy in the emerging leader culture. It would be my hope that, through work with other members of the Leadership Council and the EAL/LA body at large, we can create an opportunity for more focused training and involvement in advocacy will lead to a future generation of arts leaders who are socially engaged, politically savvy, and focused on our field’s messages.
In the short term, I am happy to be active and visible in EAL/LA events. As a relative newcomer to LA, I know how important it is to make connections with colleagues, both for professional and social purposes.
I also serve on the Emerging Leader Council of Americans for Arts and can serve as a direct link between the national emerging leader network and the local network. I can help EAL/LA increase its engagement with other emerging leader networks across the nation.
Serena Johnson, Executive Assistant at Glendale Arts
I would like to serve as the At Large Member of EAL/LA. I am personally suited for this position, both as a first face for new members and a resource for existing members.
My personality makes me uniquely suited for this position. Being the first face of the organization, building a welcoming relationship is key. I easily approach people and engage them in conversation and I am able to build relationships with new members and ascertain their needs and interests. Based on this knowledge, I am able to guide them in ways to become more intimately involved with EAL/LA. I see relationships as an integral part of this position and I look forward to using my interpersonal skills as the At Large Member.
As the At Large Member, I will also find ways to engage our present members. I would make it a priority to match our offerings to their interests, and to encourage them to be actively involved with EAL/LA. I hope to have the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for your ideas, thoughts, and future plans for this organization that serves you.
I hope to use the strengths in my personality in welcoming new members, and developing roles for our present members. Thank you for considering me for EAL/LA’s At Large Member.
Anne Landsberger, Advancement & Membership Assistant, Skirball Cultural Center
As EAL/LA’s Member At Large I would work closely with the Leadership Council to develop ways to grow the membership so that EAL/LA can build an even stronger and more dynamic network of arts professionals. By interacting regularly and intimately with EAL/LA’s current members at workshops and events, I would be able to figure out what makes EAL/LA members tick. By listening to the needs and wants of EAL/LA members in regards to their professional and personal development, the organization will be able to provide more targeted and meaningful programming.
I have a background in English and Communications, which will help in the process of synthesizing information I would receive from the membership and articulating it to the leadership council. I also have several years of work experience in fundraising, event planning, and marketing/PR – skills that would be useful to the organization as a whole, especially in the position of Member At Large, whose duty it is to work with all the committees to help better serve the EAL/LA constituency.
I love networking and meeting new people, especially those interested in the arts! I look forward to meeting you and learning what makes you tick soon!
