DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS AND FINANCE, GOLDHIRSH FOUNDATION

Our largest initiative is LA2050, a community-guided mechanism to create a shared vision of success for LA in 2050 and to track progress toward that vision.

The Goldhirsh Foundation is looking for a Director of Operations and Finance to handle grant-making, finances, human resources, legal, and operations. The right candidate will be ready to grow with the Foundation and our partners in our mutual goals, and excited to join our small but mighty team.

WE NEED THIS PERSON TO MANAGE THESE FUNCTIONS:

FINANCE

  • Oversee the financial resources of Goldhirsh Foundation in a prudent and efficient manner and ensure that they are used to support the mission and goals of the organization
  • Provide an ongoing review of the structure of the financial and business operations of the organization
  • Develop annual operating budgets and revenue forecasts
  • Lead quarterly strategic assessments and reporting to foundation president
  • Lead monthly variance review with stakeholders and presented to rest of Executive team
  • Manage internal reporting and ensure timely review and reporting
  • Oversee grants financial management and conduct bookkeeping for grants
  • Integrate grants management and investment activities for the foundation with the investment committee, foundation board, and president.
  • Oversee and/or perform all tax and audit functions

OPERATIONS

  • Create best practices to improve the overall financial and human capital strength of the organization
  • Manage and enforce internal processes designed to make Goldhirsh Foundation the best place to work
  • Establish short and long-term organizational goals, objectives, budgets, protocols and systems that support the Goldhirsh Foundation’s priorities
  • Work closely with, and be a liaison to the investment committee, wealth advisors, legal departments, and others as appropriate
  • Review and approve expense reports and other financial statements
  • Review and approve all vacation and travel requests

HUMAN RESOURCES

  • Manage benefits and annual renewal process, and advise on issues as needed
  • Advise on compensation and equity matters, approving all employment offers
  • Advise and resolve various disciplinary, management, and employee development matters

LEGAL

  • Manage external counsel
  • Assess risk and advise on legal matters

AND WE NEED SOMEONE WITH RELEVANT EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor degree required; Master’s or other professional degree preferred; Post-graduate degree or comparable experience in finance, accounting, or business
  • Advanced knowledge of and ability to apply best practices in financial planning, budgeting, accounting, investments and financial reporting
  • At least seven years’ of management experience with a commitment to a collaborative leadership style
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make tough decisions and follow through on agreed upon initiatives, work collaboratively, yet firmly when needed
  • The ability to creatively and practically solve problems
  • Outstanding organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced and changing environment
  • Excellent project management skills, ability to manage data and develop, implement and oversee budgets
  • An entrepreneurial mindset; able to identify and pursue opportunities
