About SLAM!
SLAM! Program Los Angeles, a project of Community Partners, engages a network of passionate college student volunteers to teach after-school music classes in underserved public high schools, filling the critical voids left by underfunded or nonexistent music programs. Through accessible, engaging, and tuition-free instruction, SLAM! develops instrumental skills, theoretical expertise, and musical camaraderie among young people. Our comprehensive program offers a variety of classes at each partner high school, including Piano, Guitar, Percussion, Songwriting, and Rock Band, each enthusiastically implemented by a college volunteer instructor.

Program Coordinator Job Description
The Program Coordinator is a part-time role (15 hours/week) that manages the USC SLAM! Program throughout the 2014-2015 academic year. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for all aspects of program implementation at two or three of SLAM!’s partner sites and will serve 3 key constituencies: college student volunteers, high school program participants, and school administration. Program Coordinator responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
To provide overall leadership for the implementation of the SLAM! Program at each partner site on the basis of our vision, mission, and philosophy
To manage the recruitment, enrollment, and attendance tracking of SLAM! high school student participants
To assist in the recruitment, selection, and onboarding of SLAM! volunteers
To supervise and support SLAM! college volunteer instructors while on site
To observe, assess, and offer feedback to SLAM! volunteers to improve their approach to engaging and connecting with students in an after school setting
To ensure that SLAM! volunteers understand and comply with district and school-specific policies and procedures
To collect and maintain required Volunteer/ Student Participant paperwork
To substitute teach for any absent SLAM! volunteers during programming
To monitor program data and track student and volunteer evaluation data
To hold regular meetings with internal (Regional SLAM! Staff, Volunteers) and external constituents (School-based Staff, Administration)
To maintain and oversee the SLAM! equipment inventory at each site
To allocate each site’s budget for volunteer appreciation and supply purchase
To coordinate a Final Showcase at the end of each programming session
Work Schedule
Must be available to work Monday – Friday from 2:30 – 5:30PM throughout the 2014-2015 academic year (schedule subject to change)
Must be able to begin working the week of August 11, 2014
Willing to work evenings and weekends (on occasion)
Additional responsibilities outside of these hours may be required
Qualifications
Candidates must have the following:
An undergraduate degree in Education, Music, or similar field and/or equivalent experience
Experience teaching classes in any or all of the following – Piano, Guitar, Percussion, Songwriting, Vocals, Music Production, or Rock Band
Experience delivering K-12 education (either as a classroom teacher or in some other capacity – tutor, after school instructor, etc.)
Excellent organizational skills, computer savvy and ability to do paperwork
Must present proof of negative Tuberculosis skin test (Mantoux) dated within 4 years prior to beginning employment
Must pass a criminal background check (Live Scan fingerprinting) prior to beginning employment
Must have reliable transportation
The ideal candidate will possess some or all of the following
Supervisory experience in Education, Arts Admin, Recreation or related field
Familiarity with Los Angeles high schools, administration, and policies
Familiarity with quality criteria for after school programs
Bilingual Spanish/English is a huge plus
California Teaching Credential
Exposure to or interest in social entrepreneurship or community organizing
